#TechTuesday with Alyssa

We hope everyone enjoyed the return of Medic Monday, but of course we have to bring back the Tech Tuesday as well! Grab that extra boost of caffeine and join us to meet a new face of Georgetown-Scott County EMS!

Tech Tuesday this week is Alyssa Karsner. Not only is Alyssa new to the service, she is also fairly new to the profession. We’re so excited to have Alyssa as an asset to our staff and are LOVING watching her grow so quickly!

I grew up in Scott County and graduated from SCHS in 2019, I played softball for about ten years and volleyball for three years. I love helping people and hope to eventually go to paramedic school to continue helping others at a more advanced level.

1) Where are you originally from?

I was born in Frankfort and lived there for three years then grew up here in Scott County.

2) What are your hobbies, interests, etc?

I love art, I love to paint and make numerous different crafty things. I play softball in an adult league in my spare time.

3) How did you become interested/get started in EMS?

My grandfather was an EMT at Owen County EMS and he is now the EMA director there. My cousin is a firefighter at Frankfort Fire & EMS. I’ve been around Fire/EMS pretty much my whole life and I enjoy it.

4) What brought you to Georgetown?

I wanted somewhere that was close to home and GSCEMS just happens to be in my hometown and only a five minute drive to work.

5) What is your position at GSCEMS?

EMT, but aspiring to be a paramedic.

6) Where did you go to Paramedic/EMT school?

I went to EMT school at BCTC and failed initially. However, I picked myself back up and went through Frankfort Fire and EMS’ program to retake the course and passed.

7) What is your favorite thing about EMS/your job?

I love to help people, if i wasn’t going to do EMS I would have been a nurse, but I did not want to be in the hospital setting. Helping others is probably what I am most passionate about in my life. Furthermore, every day in the life of EMS is different, sure you have your morning routine, but other than that you get to meet people and help them in their time of need.

8) What is one thing currently that you would change about EMS as a whole?

I wouldn’t want to change anything.

9) What is one place in Scott County that you would take a visitor to?

I think I would take someone to the Bi-water Farm or Evan’s Orchard. Those are two of my favorite places, especially during fall.
